Peek — Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 28, 2026
In short: Peek does not collect, store, sell or share any personal data. It has no account, no analytics, no tracking and no servers. Everything it does happens inside your browser, on the tab you choose, while you use it.
What Peek does
Peek is a browser extension that shows a live, always-on-top thumbnail of a tab in a small picture-in-picture window, so you can keep watching that tab while you work elsewhere. Clicking the thumbnail brings you back to the tab.
Data we collect
None. Peek does not collect personally identifiable information, browsing history, page contents, keystrokes, location, health, financial or any other user data. Peek does not use cookies and does not contain analytics or advertising code.
The tab's image
To show the thumbnail, Peek captures the video of the tab you started it on. This image is:
- captured only after you start Peek on that tab — by clicking its toolbar icon, pressing its keyboard shortcut, or choosing “Peek at this tab” from the page's right-click menu;
- displayed only locally, inside the thumbnail window on your own screen;
- never recorded, saved, uploaded or transmitted anywhere;
- stopped as soon as the thumbnail is closed or clicked.
Audio is never captured.
Permissions and why they are needed
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
activeTab | Access to the single tab where you start Peek, only at that moment. |
tabCapture | The live video of that tab, shown in the thumbnail. |
scripting | Runs Peek's own bundled script in that tab to open the thumbnail window. It does not read or change the page. |
contextMenus | Adds “Peek at this tab” to the page's right-click menu. |
Peek does not request access to your browsing history, bookmarks, downloads, cookies or to all websites. It does not load or run any code from the internet: all of its code is included in the extension package.
Sharing with third parties
Peek has no data to share, and shares nothing with anyone. It does not sell data, use it for purposes unrelated to its single function, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
Children
Peek collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If Peek's behaviour ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page will be updated before the new version is published, and the date at the top will change.
